This notice explains what data suomi.fyi stores in your browser, why, and for how long. It is an initial version and the final wording, legal basis, and retention periods will be confirmed before public launch.
The site stores data that is strictly necessary to function: your chosen language and colour theme, your saved Home/Work map pins and metric direction preferences, and — if you sign in — an opaque session identifier. We also store your consent choice itself. If you consent to analytics, we additionally record one row per page view containing the page address, the referring site's host, campaign tags, and an approximate country, with a daily-rotating, hashed visitor count (no cookie, no persistent identifier). We do not build profiles or share data with third parties, and all analytics is first-party and cookieless.
Essential storage exists solely to remember your settings between visits and to keep you signed in. The consent record exists to respect and demonstrate your choice. Analytics, when you consent to it, exists only to count visitors and see which pages and referrers are popular, so we can improve the site. Its legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time. We deliberately avoid collecting any personal data that is not needed for these purposes.
Browser preferences remain until you clear them. The consent choice is kept for up to 180 days, after which you will be asked again. Sign-in sessions expire after 30 days. Server-side consent audit records and analytics page-view records are retained for the documented retention period and then deleted — the exact period is a placeholder pending final review.
